  • ONSA Announces Security Simulation Exercise at Asaba Airport, Ogwashi-Ukwu

ASABA, Delta State — The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) is set to conduct a security simulation exercise at Asaba International Airport and parts of the Ogwashi-Ukwu area of Delta State on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

The planned exercise forms part of security preparedness efforts aimed at strengthening coordination, operational readiness and response capabilities among security and emergency-management agencies.

Authorities have advised residents, travellers, motorists and other members of the public who may notice unusual security activities around the affected locations not to panic.

The activities are part of a controlled simulation exercise and should not be mistaken for an actual security incident.

Public Advised to Avoid Affected Areas Where Possible

Members of the public who do not have essential duties around Asaba International Airport and the affected parts of Ogwashi-Ukwu have been encouraged to avoid the locations while the exercise is underway.

Limiting unnecessary movement in the areas is expected to give participating security and emergency personnel sufficient space to conduct the simulation effectively.

Travellers scheduled to use Asaba International Airport during the exercise should remain calm and comply with instructions issued by airport officials and security personnel.

Passengers may also wish to allow additional time for their journeys in case security activities affect movement or access around the airport.

Exercise to Test Security Preparedness

Security simulation exercises are designed to provide agencies with an opportunity to test existing response procedures and assess how effectively different organisations can coordinate during potential emergencies.

Such exercises can also help identify operational gaps and improve communication among agencies expected to respond to real-world security incidents.

The Asaba and Ogwashi-Ukwu exercise is therefore expected to involve activities intended to replicate aspects of an emergency or security situation under controlled conditions.

Residents Urged to Rely on Official Information

Members of the public have also been encouraged to rely on information from official authorities and avoid circulating unverified claims, photographs, videos or reports that could create unnecessary alarm.

Residents who encounter increased security presence or unusual activities around the affected locations on Thursday should bear in mind that a planned simulation exercise is taking place.

Travellers and residents are advised to cooperate with security personnel, observe any temporary restrictions and follow official instructions until the exercise is concluded.
