APPMEN to Host Nigeria’s Media Owners, Content Creators at 2026 National Conference in Abuja
ABUJA – The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishments of Nigeria (APPMEN) has announced plans to host its 2026 One-Day National Conference, bringing together media proprietors, digital content creators, policymakers, regulators, corporate organisations and development partners to chart a new course for Nigeria’s evolving media industry.
The conference, themed “APPMEN: Voice, Vision, Purpose,” is scheduled to hold on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju Hall, located beside the TETFund Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
According to the conference planning committee, the event is designed to reposition Nigeria’s private media and digital content ecosystem as a critical force for national development, responsible journalism, economic empowerment and job creation.
The organisers noted that the rapidly changing digital information landscape requires stronger collaboration among stakeholders, continuous professional development and strategic institutional partnerships to build sustainable, innovative and credible media platforms.
Capacity Building and Policy Conversations
The conference will begin with a morning session dedicated to capacity development and policy engagement. Participants will benefit from expert-led masterclasses delivered by legal professionals, media scholars and seasoned industry practitioners.
A high-level panel discussion on “The Future of Nigerian Media: Policy, Platforms and Purpose” will also take centre stage, followed by interactive question-and-answer sessions, stakeholder commitments and the adoption of a communiqué outlining key resolutions.
Gala Night to Celebrate Excellence
The evening session will feature a gala night and cocktail designed to honour outstanding contributions to the media industry.
Highlights will include an investiture ceremony, awards presentation to distinguished Nigerians, the unveiling of ambassadors for “The Leadership We Want” Campaign, and the official launch of the maiden edition of the APPMEN Magazine.
Call for Strategic Partnerships
APPMEN has appealed to the Federal Government, state governments, regulatory agencies, corporate organisations, development partners and media support institutions to support the conference through sponsorships and strategic partnerships.
According to the association, resources generated from these partnerships will be invested in media capacity-building programmes, digital creator training, legal aid initiatives, media safety projects and programmes aimed at promoting Nigerian stories on the global stage.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Felix Onuah, APPMEN FCT Council Coordinator and Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, described the gathering as more than a conference.
He said the initiative represents a movement committed to building an ethical, profitable and patriotic media industry capable of driving national development.
The statement was jointly endorsed by Chief Precious Enebuse, APPMEN National Coordinator.
APPMEN serves as the umbrella association representing owners and operators of private media establishments across Nigeria, with a mandate to promote professionalism, defend press freedom, strengthen institutional capacity and reinforce the role of private media in advancing democracy and national development.
