BEDC Seeks Stronger Partnership with NSCDC Delta to Protect Critical Power Infrastructure

ASABA – The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Asaba Region, has called for stronger collaboration with the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to enhance the protection of critical power infrastructure and improve operational efficiency across the region.

The appeal was made by the Regional Manager of BEDC Asaba Region, Mr. Jeffrey Nwainokpor, during a courtesy visit to the Delta State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Chinedu F. Igbo, at the Command Headquarters in Asaba.

During the meeting, Nwainokpor described the NSCDC as a key stakeholder in Nigeria’s electricity sector, emphasizing the Corps’ vital role in protecting electricity infrastructure and supporting BEDC’s operations, particularly during enforcement activities and the resolution of operational challenges.

He noted that deeper collaboration between both organisations would strengthen the security of electricity assets, improve operational effectiveness, and ultimately enhance service delivery to customers within the Asaba Region.

In his response, Commandant Chinedu Igbo welcomed the initiative, describing BEDC’s facilities as critical national infrastructure essential to Nigeria’s economic growth and social development.

He reiterated the NSCDC’s statutory mandate as the lead agency responsible for protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, assuring BEDC of the Command’s continued commitment to safeguarding electricity installations across Delta State.

The Commandant further pledged stronger cooperation with BEDC to improve the security of power infrastructure, reduce threats to electricity facilities, and support uninterrupted power distribution across the region.

The meeting underscores the growing commitment of both organisations to strengthening partnerships aimed at protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring more reliable electricity services for residents and businesses.
