Angry Youths Chase Alleged Vote Buyers, Seize Bags of Cash in Osun

Tension reportedly erupted at some polling units in Ejigbo, Osun State, on Saturday as angry youths allegedly confronted suspected vote buyers and seized bags containing large quantities of naira notes.

The incident occurred during the ongoing Osun State governorship election, amid growing allegations of vote-buying and voter inducement across parts of the state.

According to a report by Daily Trust, the youths reportedly chased away individuals suspected of attempting to influence voters with cash before taking possession of bags containing wads of naira notes.

The development comes against the backdrop of widespread reports of alleged vote-buying during the election, with voters and observers reporting cash inducements at different locations across Osun State.

Earlier reports by major Nigerian media outlets indicated that political agents were allegedly offering between ₦10,000 and ₦20,000 to some voters in various local government areas.

In Ikire, for instance, reports indicated that agents linked to the APC and Accord Party were allegedly involved in cash inducement. Similar allegations have also emerged from Ilesa, Iwo, Ila, Ile-Ife and other parts of the state.

The reported confrontation in Ejigbo has added to concerns surrounding vote-buying during the election, as citizens and election observers continue to raise questions about the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.

However, the identities of those allegedly involved in the Ejigbo incident, as well as the exact amount of money contained in the seized bags, could not be immediately established from the available reports.
