The Supreme Court has upheld David Mark as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), overturning an earlier decision by the Court of Appeal in Abuja concerning the party’s leadership dispute.
In a unanimous judgment delivered on Thursday, a five-member panel of justices led by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba struck down the appellate court’s “status quo ante bellum” order, describing it as unnecessary.

The ruling effectively restores the David Mark-led executive, nullifying its earlier removal from recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The court also ruled that the appeal challenging jurisdiction was improperly initiated, stating that it stemmed from an ex parte order directing parties to show cause, without first securing the required leave from the appellate court.
