Delta Police Recover Three Suspected Stolen Motorcycles, Three Pump-Action Guns, Arrest Five Suspects
ASABA – Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have recovered three pump-action guns and three suspected stolen motorcycles while arresting five suspects during separate intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.
The command said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and strengthen public safety through intelligence-driven policing.
In a statement issued on Monday and made available to journalists in Warri, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that operatives attached to the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, intercepted one Joseph Tyavzua during a stop-and-search operation along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway on July 27, 2026.
According to the statement, the suspect was found in possession of a pump-action gun while attempting to enter Onitsha aboard a commercial motorcycle.
During interrogation, Tyavzua allegedly claimed to be a member of a vigilante group but was unable to provide any lawful authorization or documentation permitting him to possess the firearm.
Police said the pump-action gun was recovered, while the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation on the same day, detectives attached to the Ekpan Division responded to a report of an armed robbery involving a commercial motorcycle rider along Jakpa Road, Effurun.
The investigation led to the arrest of two principal suspects identified as Edodo Gift (41) and Emoefe Solomon (27), who allegedly confessed to participating in the robbery.
According to police, the suspects subsequently led investigators to two suspected receivers of stolen property, Fodio Bello (27) and Kabiru Mohammed (25), at Otowhe, near Oleh.
The follow-up operation resulted in the recovery of two additional pump-action guns and three motorcycles believed to have been stolen during robbery operations.
Police confirmed that all four suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the suspected armed robbery syndicate.
Commending the officers for the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the sustained crackdown on violent criminal activities across Delta State.
He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will assist in preventing crime and ensuring the protection of lives and property throughout the state.
