Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has honoured centenarian Mrs. Esther Ahon on the occasion of her 100th birthday, praising her as a remarkable embodiment of grace, discipline, kindness, and exemplary motherhood.
The governor, represented by the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Jaro Egbo, delivered the tribute during a thanksgiving service held at Bishop Agori-Iwe Memorial Anglican Church.
In his remarks, Oborevwori described the celebrant’s century-long journey as one defined by humility, dignity, and strong moral values, noting that her life stands as a guiding light for both present and future generations. He emphasized that beyond reaching the milestone age of 100, Mrs. Ahon’s enduring legacy lies in her unwavering commitment to family and her role in raising responsible and accomplished children.
Mrs. Ahon, mother of the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, was also commended for her contributions to society and the values she has upheld throughout her lifetime.
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to the welfare of senior citizens, the governor stressed the importance of celebrating elders who have made lasting impacts in their communities. He further reflected on the deeper meaning of honour, stating that titles such as “Okpakorere,” reserved for revered elders, carry greater significance than political recognition and are divinely bestowed.
The event attracted prominent media stakeholders, including Ike Abiagom, Chairman of the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, alongside members of the association’s leadership and general membership.
Earlier, in his sermon, Venerable Oghomena Diakeleho-Edjere described the celebrant as a devoted and God-fearing woman whose steadfast commitment to the church remains exemplary. He commended her consistency, punctuality, and active service, referring to her as a “living legend” worthy of celebration.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Moses Ahon expressed profound gratitude to God for the rare milestone, noting that Mrs. Ahon is the first in the family to attain the age of 100. He described the occasion as a moment of great pride and joy for both the family and the wider community.
He also appreciated the presence of dignitaries, including government officials, traditional rulers, industry leaders, and well-wishers who gathered to honour the centenarian.
The celebration featured a solemn thanksgiving service, heartfelt prayers, and tributes celebrating a life widely regarded as impactful and inspiring. It culminated in a vibrant reception, highlighted by the ceremonial cutting of the birthday cake by Mrs. Ahon, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and guests.
