Nigeria’s Minister of Power has officially resigned, effective April 30, 2026, to focus on his long-held ambition of becoming governor of Oyo State.

In a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, and submitted to the Presidency, Adelabu stated that his decision was driven by the need to fully dedicate himself to the gubernatorial race, an aspiration he has pursued since 2016.
He noted that his previous position as Deputy Governor, as well as his resignation from that office in 2018, were both steps taken in pursuit of the same political goal.
Adelabu also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve on the Federal Executive Council as Minister of Power, highlighting the critical role of the power sector in Nigeria’s industrial growth and economic advancement.
He added that stepping down now would allow for a smooth transition and proper handover within the ministry as he shifts attention to his political campaign.
